Drawings by Frederic, Lord Leighton (1830-1896)

Leighton Drawings Project
The Leighton Drawings Project aimed to catalogue, conserve, photograph and exhibit the collection of almost 700 drawings by Frederic Leighton at Leighton House Museum. It was carried out between 2005 and 2007 with the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, and can be accessed, along with a database of all Leighton drawings in other public collections worldwide, from the website of the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea.

‘Flaming June’ is the Leighton painting that I find the most sensuous: the imagery is evocative of glorious repose.

Frederic Leighton’s studio is now open to the public as a museum : it is known as an amazing work of architecture in its own right- a fusion of Middle Eastern and European styles. Paintings on display include works by contemporaries of Leighton including Edward Burne-Jones.

  5. Hi guys and thanks for the comments - good to see you here Aisha and Jolly Bengali. Leighton - I was going to ask if you were a namesake..

Yep I would have trouble ‘restricting’ myself to few topics, I rant on all sorts of things and find a range of stuff fascinating. Jolly Bengali - re: ‘dawats’
( that’s dinner parties by the way for non-bengali speakers!) well i’m not the best person to ask- i guess they’re pretty much the same from what little i’ve seen of the dawat scene: (’ve only been living in the UK as a student and post-student life - I didn’t grow up here) similar social dynamics.

  6. Sorry Sonia, I went on your website the other day and there appeared to be dozens of comments by inappropriate names (they all have disappeared now).

  7. Namesake, but no relation. Know what you mean about restricting topics. We all know we should focus more but…

  9. oh yes Rumbold — they would be the ’spammers’!! unfortunately sometimes my spam filter ‘overflows’… i can’t think how to get a 100% spam solution..and I don’t want to have to moderate comments. Even if its about 5 or 6 comments getting through- they’re usually the sort of things you don’t want showing up on your front page! Thanks for mentioning it anyways.

Suroor - it’s an amazing work of art isn’t it..
