Will the Global War on Terrorism be the New Cold War?
October 3, 2006 – 12:21 pmGood question indeed.
This week’s public lectures at the LSE are asking some hard-hitting questions. This particular lecture is presented by the LSE Cold War Studies Centre as part of the ‘End of the Cold War and Making of a New World Order Lecture Series‘ and delivered by Professor Barry Buzan.
Many have talked of the ‘war on terror’ as if it were a new Cold War. This simplistic and misleading understanding is subject to a major critique by one of the leading writers on international relations today.

Whatever it’s name it’s a war for sure. This one seems to have more casualties than the Cold War. Sometimes I miss the Berlin Wall and Checkpoint Charlie and the taxfree Russian vodka. This war on terror is just a sad comment on the human condition.

Comrades when you are done with passing silly comments on the “serious problem” of terrorism that the world faces, then do grant a few moments to look at what is happening in Darfur (Sudan) on in Zimwabwe, or in Iran.
Is it also true that the Saudi Arabia is building a 27 billion dollar fence along its border with Iraq? But the comrades on this blog may not of heard about it. They hear only when something happens in the “more civilized” parts of the world.
This is the kind of hypocirisy that is strengthning the hands of the terrorists. You guys are not helping Islam, nor are you helping the people in the third world countries. You guys are only giving strength to the bad guys in third world countries who are only after sending us all tumbling back to the Stone Age.
This time I am really sick of the hypocirsy. Why do you guys hate humanity so much? I have posed a serious question and if any comrade on this blog has a single honest bone in his or her body I hope to have a serious answer.
The question is - why do you guys hate humanity so much? What makes you guys so much anti-civilizatio? Do you think you will be happier in the Stone Age?

Interesting blog. As to the post, call it what you will, but calling it a war seems wrong to me as (i) it gives terrorists a name they don’t deserve, and (ii) since we will never get to the stage where there is no terrorist threat, it is a war we accordingly can never win

Hey comrades, I am here only to tell you that the world needs love and not violence. Violence only breeds more violence. But along with love the world also needs latest cameras, watches, cars, good stories and Bollywood heroines. All this is only possible if we have a capitalist society.
To find details on all the best things that capitalism has to offer log on to Raja Magazine (http://rajamagazine.com/) , your one stop shop for all that you need to lead a peaceful and fulfilled life.
Here is a song from the collection of Raja Magazine:
“What the world needs now
is love, sweet love
it’s the only thing
that there’s just too little of
What the world needs now
is love, sweet love,
no not just for some
but for everyone.
Lord, we don’t need
another mountain,
there are mountains
and hillsides enough to climb
There are oceans
and rivers enough to cross,
enough to last
’til the end of time.
What the world needs now
is love, sweet love
it’s the only thing
that there’s just too little of
What the world needs now
is love, sweet love,
no, not just for some
but for everyone.
Lord, we don’t need
another meadow
there are cornfields
and wheat fields enough to grow
There are sunbeams
and moonbeams enough to shine
oh listen, lord,
if you want to know.
What the world needs now
is love, sweet love
it’s the only thing
that there’s just too little of
What the world needs now
is love, sweet love,
no, not just for some
but for everyone.
No, not just for some,
oh, but just for everyone.”

Looks like Sonia’s long train of comments on everything under the universe has finally ended in a whimper. No more posts from her for a long time.
I think what has got her is sheer ennui from the leftist tirade that she had been spewing. I dont blame her for that because leftist ideology does inspire ennui. Now if she had been ejaculating a decent capitalist and conservative thought through her blog, she might have continued to remain enthusiasitic.
But it is too early to blame leftist ennui for her travails. It is also likely that she no longer has time for the blog as she is spending more time in overseeing her multinational business investments all over the world. Every year she earns tons of currency notes but instead of spending the money on a good cause, she stashes them away in the basement of her house. That basement must be overflowing with notes…..

“Will the Global War on Terrorism be the New Cold War?”
Ha! Well….
Take a look at the National Security Strategy, a.k.a. the Bush Doctrine. You’ll see that the “war on terrorism” has indeed replaced the “Cold War.”
But then again, what could you expect? Those from the Cold War years (Nixon, Reagan, and Bush I Administrations) are now in this administration.
Same old people, same old idealogies
