Economics
December 14, 2005 – 6:46 pmThere is a huge area to cover to really get our teeth into the problem with the current economic system, and understanding of economics full stop. there’s the whole minefield of understanding ‘Economics’, understanding how it is interpreted by policy practitioners, and the epistemological bases of what currently passes as ‘economics’ in academia and the trickle-down. Monetary theory and reform obviously comes into this ( more on this later, I shall be inviting experts in this field to contribute to this) - and later on i shall be commenting on what my personal thoughts are on this area. One of the key things i’ll mention in passing that I’m interested in- is obviously the contribution of social psychology and psychology can make to this critique. At the end of the day, what i’ve observed is that there are so many people who go off and study economics without querying some very basic issues and concepts. And those are to do with some very simple common sense questions.
In the meantime, check out Aaron Swartz’s Understanding Economic Jargon which was inspired by Bigelow’s ” Let There Be Markets:
The Evangelical Roots of Economics”. It’s hilarious, and if nothing else, should make us all think a little bit. Particularly i always think the great thing about science is that it makes you think, question, criticize, re-formulate. all of the things authoritarian leaders/society don’t want you to usually do.
anyhow, enjoy the piece.

One Response to “Economics”
1. Too many words on something very simple sometime create confusion more than something easy people to understand. Its all about definition, then implementations. And the later is most difficult part. Everything is all about power, and the less power group in economical environment is consumer, into which its either under controls of policy maker and or producers, … end user or consumer power indeed here only a myth. They are powerless except for certain less important issue, and most of the time they become victims. From time to time, in the past, present and future.

2. One size fits all? …No, I prefer size ‘L’, .. he he.
