USA walks out of climate change talks
December 10, 2005 – 12:19 pmMontreal: more than 150 nations at a ‘high-level’ summit ( one of those..) poised to move ahead with Kyoto - and what does the US Administration do? they refused to sign up to a UN statement intended to reopen talks on how to tackle climate change. Washington’s behaviour represents a serious embarrassment to Tony Blair:ha ha who as we all know has sort of been promising this as an olive branch. And now, if he can’t deliver, all the remarks about Bush’s ‘poodle’ will come back.

As long as we humans are not prepared to sacrifice our energy rich lifestyles we are doomed for failure on the issue of climate change. No amount of government regulation can change the fact.
The only way to go ahead is to invent new technologies like:

yup the energy rich lifestyles are clearly key, that is absolutely one of the main points of sustainability.

Check here for an excellent article supporting just what you say. Monbiot’s (admittedly crude) calculations show that renewables (at least for the UK) with present technologies cannot supply anywhere near the amount the Brits currently use. And the guy’s a greeny!
His conclusion is therefore to cut demand, a measure I fully support as I stare at my 17″ monitor atop its shiny energy guzzling PC…

Ven,
How do you choose to define “rich”. Rich is a very subjective term. For example anyone with access to two meals a day and threadbare shelter could be considered rich in Sudan, but definitely not so in US. The fact is the definition of rich differ from nation to nation, culture to culture.
Now I am truly disappointed with you, just as I am disappointed with the the liberal chick, called Sonia. I think both of you are closet communists. Birds with the same feather hang together!!!

You absolutely right on this ‘rich’ issue Bihari Babu,
Few (meaningless) dollars in the US, could support the whole family for days in some country.

Apparently the Russians made the US delegation come back.
Hehe, I wish I knew what the delegate had said exactly…

ha yes that would be amusing indeed to find out. please come back otherwise we make you drink vodka all night.?!!
Nation-states in general like to make trouble, they seem to think they have some kind of group social ‘legitimacy’ to do so - of course partly this is based on the ‘premise’ that nations are created in ‘opposition’ to - and competition with - other equivalent social groupings - i.e. other nations. Its this national competitive framework that our existence is built on that seems to be highly problematic - systematically- for without considering the underlying problems this creates, its very difficult to understand, and solve - the ‘overlying’ problems which result.
Quite simple really - but not very clear - and is generally confused even in the academic world.
I’d say one of the things that’s interesting about techies and the computer world is that people have a good understanding of how the ‘platform’ we use contributes to the ‘bugs’ experienced.
