so. was the welfare state a mistake?
December 5, 2005 – 7:28 pmha ha that should open the can of worms again. No its not my question - simply for those who want to wriggle around in the can - and the indian capitalists of the world -possibly a field day for you lot - possibly not! -this is a debate at the LSE this wednesday. Some bloke called James Bartholomew is going to argue that “Britain would have been better off without the great expansion of the welfare state since 1945″, and challenged by a panel of critics - listed below:
* Nicholas Barr, professor of public economics at the European Institute, LSE and author of ‘The Economics of the Welfare State’
* Edward Davey MP, Liberal Democrat spokesperson on education, MP for Kingston and Surbiton and a contributor to the recent Orange Book - Reclaiming Liberalism.
* Niall Dickson, formerly social affairs editor for the BBC and now chief executive of the King’s Fund.
* Allyson Pollock, chair of Health Policy and Health Services Research at UCL, and author of NHS plc, a vigorous critique of government reform of health care.
full details - and the debate will be recorded by BBC Radio 4.

I appear to be seeing double, and I haven’t even touched a drop.

LOL.
Same thing happened here a few times - little tip, create an entry in your phone called “Aardvark” with the number 12345. Then you don’t end up concerning people at strange times!

Jonz,
You should not use LOL so many times. It is bad habit and it only goes to show your lack of proper english usage.
Abbreviating words for SMS is fine, but when you are typing you should take care to type full sentences and words.
Moreover, only people who are outright SILLY, laugh out loud without any rhyme or reason.
All liberals are silly.

heh heh i think j0nz would probably agree with you there about the liberals! i however think - if people want to say LOL then bully for them i say.
