Tragic death of De Menzes, but I can’t help but feel slightly queasy how some of the war the anti-war left have latched onto this. Very unfortunate that this young lad got shot by the police…Especially ironic since Brazil routinely executes thousands of people on the streets according to this BBC article/
My 2 pence.

sure j0nz - however the people who were closest to him generally constituted part of the anti-war crew ( i dont think anyone really defines themselves as a lefty except in opposition to a bunch of right-wing nutters so for the most part anti-war is enough to describe a position in itself) : young people with empathy. the night itself had a lot of the brazilian community there and i don’t think anyone who was there could say it was ‘taken over’ by anyone. the peace not war crew are as i say - an organic bunch - and a motley crue. im sure if you’d been there yourself you wouldn’t think it was ‘overly political’…just a great party, a BRILLIANT samba band and young people who want to make a difference.
