breasfeeding in public
November 22, 2005 – 6:00 pmthe BBC Have your Say forums are certainly informative. goodness knows we’d never have any idea as to the funny ideas people have otherwise. the most recent hoo-ha is ‘whether women should be allowed to breastfeed in public’
“A woman in the UK was asked by police to stop feeding her baby as she sat on a bench in Watton town centre, after another shopper complained.
In Scotland, parliament passed a bill earlier this month making it illegal to stop women from breastfeeding in public.”
“Should breastfeeding in public be banned? ”
Now - before i went and flicked through the responses i’m thinking - hang on - so what then - breastfeeding mothers will never be able to go out ever again??? Its not like there are such wonderful facilities about everywhere for mothers and babies, is it.
And who’s getting offended? are these the same people who think ‘women’ should be covered up otherwise they’re too seductive..? Ha ha you’d think not - given the fact that these are mothers! ( generally considered not very sexy.. i thought!..but maybe i was wrong)
looking at the responses - some people have said stuff like ‘oh is it too much to expect women to bring out their baby with a bottle’ ! and stuff like that. Are they offended because of the babies or are they offended cos they’ve seen a breast? ( ooh dear that wouldn’t do would it now?)
i mean - i think motherhood is pretty fucking difficult - look all around you! It is funny how when you look at the fundamental building blocks of society - parenting and having children - but when it comes down to it - society isn’t very supportive. Stick to your traditional role or fuck off! Mothers stay indoors! That’s where you belong..! You can’t have a life and a baby! We certainly ain’t going to make it easy for you - no!
Gosh. Oh and then if anyone thinks boy this is a lot of hassle and put off having children -because clearly there isn’t much support ( look at the atrocious costs of childcare, lack of good childcare, the maternity leave here is miles better than in the States ..but still.. ) then what happens?! a lot of silly comments from the government wanting to know why women are having children later? Pah.

I’m all for breast feeding in public. In fact I’d be happy if women just left their tops at home altogether… [Starts Day dreaming]

..and so they should cover up. When i was a kid i used to hate seeing this. You go out with your mum or go to a local park or something and some minging woman pulls her jugs out right in front of your face. Now i just think it looks tacky and common.

ha ha goodness me -’cover up’. Talk about the lack of interest in functionality…seems to be the only interest is in ‘form’.
tacky and common - were you under the impression that it was supposed to be ‘untacky’ and ‘uncommon’?

I on the other hand have seen some absolute stunnas getting out their right jug. But anyway, Jamal, whats the big fuss?
It’s all part of mother nature. Let’s not be ashamed to be human.

Breasts are a turn on…
Fine… I don’t mind, that can be great fun!
But… It’s discusting that breasts have become so sexualised that we can’t use them for what they are intended!

yes. also some of these folks who’re anti- this public feeding thing seem to be suggesting that because breasts are symbolic of beauty to them hence if its a ‘floppy’ one belonging to an ‘old cow’/ mother type person then they don’t want them out in public! do u imagine these people go around complaining about topless beaches/mags? i bet not!

Looking at breasts in public is pretty tittilating for the male species for sure. Also is the fact that, no amount of consistent exposure to pictures of female breast to the males species would ever condition them to accept the fact that a female breast is MERELY anatomically different than a male breast!!!!

even a mother feeding her baby? its not like you even get to see most of the breast do you? Goodness

Based on my own experiences it is pretty distracting. We all have this nasty habit of Voyuerism. I know I would steal some glances at the female breast. And if you start a crusade to allow breast feeding I will support you
. I would really cherish the few moments when my brain secrets Serotonin and Dopamine.
Weird isnt it, women and men share the nipple. Yet a male wants to see the female nipple!!!!!
