so - the votes were for Noam Chomsky as “The World”s Top Public Intellectual”. that”s great - { Umberto Eco came in at no. 2 by the way - see the list of full results of the Prospect global intellectuals poll} - and Chomsky is definitely a clever man, i”m certainly not one of those who would argue with that. but i don”t really see the point of a “top intellectual” - obviously that”s cos i don”t see the point of anything “top” - well in the sense that it represents competition - and is a pretty silly way of “measuring” anything meaningful. “Oh i came top in my class ” - good for you! that”s what its reminiscent of. take for example - City AM - London”s newest daily paper since Metro, they”ve been trying to jazz up their publication ( so that FT readers will switch, eh?) in terms of such lists- in their case indicating who are the “most eligible” bachelors and bachelorettes in the square mile. ah well.

I know an eligible bachelor in Islington.
Look what this ultra farright Indian capitalist nutcase has posted on his web. He is written against chomsky. After all how sacriligous can one get.
http://anoopverma.blogspot.com/2005/11/chomsky-reductio-ad-absurdum.html
It seems he has also changed the name of his blog to Indian Capitalist.
ah good old IC. he’s done much more for the ‘resurgence’ of ‘communists’ than he imagines.
Great! Now I find another communist ranting about my blog on your blog-page. First there was this cimurai guy and now this is this one. Anyway the communists are an unpredictable species, one can never know what they will do and where.
If you are a Buddhist (you left message in that regard) then you should be of peaceful nature and not an outright warmonger. Why are you supporting Noam Chomsky, a leftist hardliner, who has made a lucrative career out of singing paeans to every mass murderer in the last hundred years?
ha - yes, its quite funny isn’t it, all the ‘communists’ are coming out of the woodwork - and thanks to you IC!
yes i certainly am a peaceful creature
thats why im a peace activist and anti-war. i also don’t believe in ‘’supporting” things in a conventional sense.
IC, why is communist a useless term?
Because it is used to describe everyone from Mao to Castro to Pol Pot to Engels to Trotsky to Brecht to Gramsci to Rosa Luxemburg. And many thousands of others.
All of whom had radically different ideas and lived in radically different societies.
You might as well say that Greece is like the Third Reich, because they are both capitalist.
Until the term can be reclaimed to define someone who believes that society should be run according to the entire community’s wishes for the benefit of everyone and that property should be communally owned, there isn’t much point is using the term with all its savage, blood-stained baggage. Is there?
Ha ha, nice try Mr IC,

Your above remarks make me remember something that’s has happened during my days at a high school. That there was about ‘a sort fat bald and tummy old boy’ one day stupidly using stupid old tactics of throwing nasty thing in-front girls hostels corridor at night, and then in the next morning (eagerly) he happened make himself be the first noticed the ‘incident’ and start noisily accusing others did it, especially handsome and smarts young gentleman like me in front of girls in an attempt to …bla…bla..…bla…. ha ha ha. silly yet funny. tysk tysk.

A ha, still fresh in my mind that word ‘nutcase’ and ‘leftist’ are/were his favorites ‘rites’ (in scolding juniors). Thank goodness anyway when someone had found his ‘nutcase’ somewhere around girls hostel that has made him really ‘gone mad’.
*
And this the same word that I always found to be your and/or someone like you repeatedly using it on guardian newsblog while labeling others. What coincident!
*
Sorry, I (at anytime) don’t mean to say that he is/was you. Its just an old story, really

Cimurai.
Perhaps the title should read, “The World’s Top PUBLICISED Intellectual’.
As for ‘communists’, much of the world, led by the Juvenile State of America, has mistaken its juvenile interpretation of it for a terminological one. As far as terminology goes, Christ, as illustrated by the 13th Commandment, was a true Communist. Wrongful application of an idea is not diagnostic of the Intrinsic evil of a phenomenon. Simple logic actually.
yeah i agree with that logical reasoning. everywhere you go you see terrible application of ideas by idiot people who never understood the idea in the first place anyway. also i dont see why its not more widely understood that all people have individual interpreations of ideas; and different ways of implementing the same idea.
